Degree/certification: Mechanical or fire protection engineering degree

About the team

Data Center Engineer

Daily schedule
Monday-Friday 40 hrs a week, 2hr OT buffer
5% Team meetings/ fire protection meetings
40% working with fire protection engineer on tasks
40% working with mechanical engineers; RFIs
15% Flex time; working more with fire protection, additional calls, etc.
Large amount of interaction with HM
1 hour weekly 1:1s with senior fire protection engineer
Fire protection engineering is involved with different technologies
Learning a lot on the job
Being on the owner side and understanding the process
Collaborative and diverse team
Meeting with different engineering disciplines

Job Description: 
We're looking for an outstanding Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineer who combines superb technical and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively.
This person must will be responsible for implementing standardized Fire Protection (fire suppression, fire detection, fire alarm and overall fire safety), mechanical design and related code analysis for Data Centers.
The ideal candidate will have a foundation in fire protection and/or mechanical engineering suited for building fire protection system design, construction, and/or operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: (with Sr. Fire Protection Engineer oversight)
• Driving improvement of design standards and project approaches
• Working with third-party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established design standards, local code requirements, and any other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs);
• Interdisciplinary coordination of fire protection and life safety design elements;
• Coordinating with construction, commissioning, and risk management teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries;
• Development and oversight of construction documents, code compliance, design and installation standards, water supply evaluation and assessment, testing, inspections, and submittal review. Meet with AHJs as needed to ensure approval of fire protection features;
• Review of Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm System Construction Submittals (shop drawings, calculations, product data, and RFIs);

REQUIRED SKILLS
• BSc/MSc in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering degree in a related field or 5 years of qualifying experience
• Cumulative of 2+ years of experience in design engineering or the construction industry, related to fire protection engineering, including fire suppression systems, fire alarm and detection systems, fire-resistive construction and life safety
• Experience applying local codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, International Code Council (ICC) requirements, and other fire protection industry standards, procedures and methodologies
• Experience with processes of design reviews, specification, development of design standards and submittal reviews
• Experience with construction documentations (design drawings, controls diagrams, specifications, etc) for all trades
• Strong communication and writing skills

PREFERRED SKILLS
• Experience directly with related construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale mechanical and power systems.
• Experience with Code Modification Requests (CMRs) and Alternate Materials and Methods (AMM) proposals
• Experience with fire marshal, fire plans examiners, fire inspector or authority having jurisdictions.
• Use of engineering project management software
